 About Us

 

The Clinical Research Center of Guangdong Medical College support innovative research at Guangdong Medical College by supplying highly specific services, equipment and staff that would otherwise be too costly for a single laboratory or department to offer. Our facility includes two building and more than 3000 square meter and 80 research full-time staff. While most facility are publicly available, a few platform could be available including ultrastructure analysis of biomedical diagnostic platform, fluorescence intensity of staining of cell marker analysis technology platforms, cell imaging and analysis technology platform and nucleic acid analysis platform, tissue and cell bank, zebra fish platform etc. These platforms supply services to aid researchers performing studies in their research project. Our mission is to provide support and solutions to the basic medical research and translational medicine. We strive to provide high quality, economical services to Guangdong Medical College community and public. We expect to further collaboration between us and outside.


Director 

Gang Liu, MD, PhD

 

Dr. Liu received his MD degrees from School of Medicine, XI’AN Jiaotong University; China,and received his PhD degree in Science of Tumor Biology, School of Medicine, Osaka University, Japan in 1999. 1999-2001 as JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow, (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science); since 2002, He worked at Department of Medicine, Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, where he served as research associate and assistant professor(research). From 2010, He began to work as the director of the Clinical Research Center, Guangdong Medical College.
Dr. Liu's research interests include Molecular mechanisms of the particulate matter effect on respiration disease, Pathogenesis of Lung Cancer, Asbestosis and Pulmonary fibrosis.
He has published more than 20 papers in international journal, including JCI. JBC. Cancer Research etc.

Core facilities and labs

Ultrastructure Analysis of Biomedical Diagnostic facilities

The platform are equipped with high-performance, high-contrast, easy to operate JEOL JEM-1400 transmission electron microscope and modern new box-type freezing microtome which has advanced dual cooling system, and a variety of cold sliced ultramicrotomes. With these advanced instruments, this platform can provide ultrastructure detection of clinical cells or tissue samples and ultra-pathological diagnosis for clinical departments.

 

 

Nucleic Acid Analysis facilities
The platform are equipped with advanced facilities such as high-throughput, microwell plate-based LightCycler 480 Real-Time PCR System; High performance and versatile multilabel reader Mithras LB940 which renowned for its sensitivity and robustness especially in luminescence and BRET measurements the reader supports all important reading technologies; Bio-Rad VersaDoc 5000MP which is a quantitative imaging systems for capturing high resolution digital images from single and multi-color fluorescence, chemiluminescence, chemiflourescence and colorimetric samples; LightScanner96 which is the first system to use Hi-Res Melting analysis for mutation scanning; And Thermo Scientific KingFisher mL Magnetic Particle Processors and Multiporator system-Eppendorf. With these advanced instruments, this platform can provide the services of pathogen detection, gene expression analysis, apoptosis and related gene expression analysis and detection, Western Northern and Southern Blot imaging, multiple gel and blot imaging, SNP and mutation analysis and detection.

Cell Imaging and Analysis Technology facilities
This platform is designed for cell or tissue imaging and analysis which is mainly equipped with Leica TCS SP5 confocal laser scanning microscope. Using this microscope, living cells and tissues can be sliced or continuous scanning, to obtain a fine individual cells or groups of cells in three-dimensional image structures at all levels; Spectral scanning emission spectra can be taken by chart, for overlapping spectral split, to achieve the application of fluorescence colocalization; Multiple fluorescently labeled signal detection; Perform cell injury, and fluorescence photobleaching recovery techniques (FRAP), fluorescence resonance energy transfer experiments (FRET), the caged (UNCAGE) and other optical stimulation experiments, to facilitate cell communication research.

 

 

Fluorescence Intensity of Staining of Cell Marker Analysis Technology facilities
The platform is equipped with BD FACSCantoTM II analyzer for flow cytometer. This facility can capture up to 10,000 events per second. A novel sample injection system delivers carryover of less than 0.1% (10x better than current industry standards). The system is equipped with 6-color 2-laser system (488, 633 nm), fully integrated fluidics cart, BD FACSCanto clinical software and BD FACSDiva software. The two lasers allow detection of fluorochromes like FITC, Alexa488, Phycoerythrin (PE), Propidium Iodide, PerCP, PerCP-Cy5.5, PE-Cy5, PE-Cy7, APC-Cy7, TO-PRO-3 and 7-Aminoactinomycin D (7-AAD). With these advanced instruments, this platform can provide the services of cellular immunity typing, analysis and detection of intracellular antigens, cytokine detection, cell cycle analysis, apoptotic cells detection, DNA content analysis and reactive oxygen species detection.
